  53. 1.3    SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
  54.  
  55.     A.    Water repellents specified herein are clear, deep penetrating, non-film forming, non-silicone or urethane, non-yellowing, heavy duty, chemical water repellent solutions.

  57. 1.4    SUBMITTALS
  58.  
  59.     A.    Submit under provisions of Section 01300.
  60.  
  61.     B.    Product Data:  Three copies of manufacturer's current technical data sheets for materials.

  63. 1.5    QUALITY ASSURANCE
  64.  
  65.     A.    Pre-Installation Meetings:
  66.         1.    Before Application:  Installer and Manufacturer's Representative shall inspect surfaces to be treated, noting in writing to the Architect, deficiencies or flaws in the substrate construction which would affect the performance or appearance of the water repellent.
  67.         2.    Beginning of Application:  Manufacturer's Representative shall assure utilization of proper equipment, verify material quantities, and supervise material application techniques upon a substantial wall section.  This wall section shall act as a comparative standard for the project.
  68.  
  69.     B.    Installer shall comply with recommendations and instructions set forth by manufacturer as part of manufacturer's service in addition to complying with the terms of the warranty.
  70.  
  71.     C.    Installer Qualifications:  Minimum five years experience regularly engaged and specializing in the application of specialty surface treatments to exterior wall substrates.

  73.     D.    Installer shall not proceed with material application until all deficiencies noted in pre-application inspection report have been corrected.

  75.     E.    Installer shall notify manufacturer no less than 72 hours before starting application.

  77. 1.6    DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
  78.  
  79.     A.    Deliver materials in original sealed containers, clearly marked with manufacturer's name, type of material, and batch number.

  81.     B.    Inspect the materials upon delivery to assure that specified products have been received.
  82.  
  83.     C.    Store materials where temperatures are not less than 45 degree F (7 degrees C).

  85.     D.    Use all means necessary to protect material before, during, and after installation, and to protect work of other trades.

  87. 1.7    ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  89.     A.    All materials shall comply with current Federal and State environmental requirements.

  91. 1.8    WARRANTY

  93.     A.    Manufacturer's Material Warranty:  Manufacturer's warranty against water intrusion:

  95.         1.    Warranty Period:  Five years from date of Substantial Completion.
  96.         2.    Warranty Period:  Ten years from date of Substantial Completion.

  109. 2.2    MATERIALS
  110. NOTE ** Select paragraph below appropriate for the project.  Five year warranty is available for all liquid water repellents listed; ten year warranty is available for only the first three.

  112.     A.    Liquid Water Repellent:  Rainguard Products Company "Blok-Lok" or "Super" with "Micro-Lok."

  114.     B.    Liquid Water Repellent:  Rainguard Products Company "Micro-Seal" with "Micro-Lok."

  116.     C.    Liquid Water Repellent:  Rainguard Products Company "XS" with "Micro-Lok" (solvent).

  133. PART 3    EXECUTION

  135. 3.1    EXAMINATION
  136.  
  137.     A.    Verify that surfaces to be coated are in proper condition.  
  138.         1.    New substrates: Cured 30 days before application.
  139.         2.    Cured substrates:  Allowed to dry three to seven days following rainfall before application.
  140.         3.    Substrate moisture content:  No higher than 15 percent as registered on an electronic moisture meter.
  141.  
  142.     B.    Verify that voids in masonry joints or joints found to be unsound or defective have been raked out and pointed with mortar to create a joint of full-face shell thickness.
  143.  
  144.     C.    Where freezing conditions have existed before application, allow adequate time for building to thaw.
  145.  
  146. 3.2    PREPARATION
  147.  
  148.     A.    Thoroughly clean substrates of foreign substances, such as dirt, efflorescence, and mortar spills.
  149.         1.    Use "dry" cleaning method where applicable.
  150.         2.    Allow three days minimum dry time before applying material if wet cleaning method is utilized.
  151.  
  152.     B.    Protect windows and work of other trades against damage by coating, whether to be coated or not.  
  153.  
  154.     C.    Protect plant life against damage from coatings.  
  155.  
  156. 3.3    APPLICATION
  157.  
  158.     A.    Apply materials in strict accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and when substrate surface temperature is above 45 degrees F (7 degrees C).
  159.         1.    Follow instructions in manufacturer's current technical data sheet for general information and coverage rates.
  160.  
  161.     B.    Spray apply water repellent using high-volume, low-pressure spray equipment, pressure not to exceed 60 psi (4,218 g/sq. cm).  Hudson or garden-type sprayer can be used for small applications.

  163.     C.    Clean all drips, runs, and overspray residue while still wet.

  165. 3.4    FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
  166.  
  167.     A.    Manufacturer's Representative shall inspect all coated surfaces after work is complete to verify proper application.

  169. 3.5    ADJUSTING AND CLEANING
  170.  
  171.     A.    If damage occurs, immediately make all repairs and replacements necessary at no additional cost to Owner.
  172.  
  173.     B.    During process of work, remove discarded coating materials, rubbish, cans, and rags at end of each workday.
  174.  
  175.     C.    Correct any damage by cleaning, repairing or replacing, and recoating, as acceptable to Architect.
